Title sort of says it all. My FH and I are atheists and very averse to new-age-y spiritual stuff. We've spoken to a few officiants and some have really been, as one of the officiants put it, "mercenaries". They show up, say the words, crack a joke and we kiss. Others have been non-religious, but also suggest elements of spirituality we're not comfortable with. The very last thing I want is to feel embarrassed by the language of our ceremony. This moment is truly important to us.Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to look for officiants who might be right for us? I'm thinking just searching "non-religious" is not cutting it. Non-spiritual seems to better fit what we're looking for, but we don't just want to hire a body (one woman did fun couple questionnaires and suggested date nights/communication meetings to get to know us, and I really liked that idea!) I'm still doing research but it isn't looking great so far. via /r/weddingplanning https://ift.tt/2Ze3U0O
